Today, July 3rd<\/strong>, a strategic meeting<\/strong> took place between institutions and businesses at the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE)<\/strong>. The event, promoted by Veronafiere<\/strong>, Progetto Fuoco<\/strong>, Aiel<\/strong> (Italian Agroforestry Energy Association) and with major industry leaders, including Daniele Rigamonti<\/strong>, CEO of GREEN ALLIANCE<\/strong> and WOODECH ITALIA SRL<\/strong>, aimed to define the future of wood bioenergy<\/strong> in Italy, a supply chain composed of over 14,000 companies<\/strong>, 72,000 employees<\/strong> and an economic value exceeding 4 billion euros<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In Italy, approximately 5 million families<\/strong> use wood biomass<\/strong> for heating, thanks to a fleet of over 8 million appliances<\/strong> including stoves and fireplaces. Biomass represents the second domestic heating source<\/strong> after natural gas, covering about 15% of demand<\/strong> and contributing 65.7%<\/strong> to renewable heat production in the residential sector.<\/p>\n During the meeting with Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin<\/strong>, sector representatives emphasized the importance of the supply chain in the country’s ecological transition<\/strong>. Among the topics discussed: technological innovation<\/strong>, environmental and economic sustainability<\/strong>, and the need for a clear and stable regulatory framework<\/strong>, with incentives<\/strong> that can support the wood bioenergy market.<\/p>\n Companies have proposed the establishment of a permanent interministerial table<\/strong> involving the ministries of Environment, Agriculture and Enterprise to overcome the current regulatory fragmentation<\/strong> and harmonize energy, industrial and forestry policies. A systematic approach<\/strong> could strengthen the role of wood bioenergy in the national climate strategy<\/strong>, also contributing to energy security<\/strong>, given that Italy imports almost 80% of its energy<\/strong> and 99% of natural gas<\/strong>.
