Quality is
our Stronghold

Woodtech Italia guarantees that its raw materials and production processes are rigorously controlled and compliant with the strictest industry standards. We have obtained the international certifications DINplus, FSC®, ENplus®, PEFC and Prima SceltaPlus, an internal quality control system developed at our first plant in Switzerland.

Quality Control, guaranteed by continuous external monitoring by the most authoritative international certification bodies, takes place through a plan established by the producer and approved by the certification body. Once a year, the certification bodies audit the quality control system and issue the updated certifications.

DINPlus

The DINplus certification is issued by DIN CERTCO, the certification institute of TÜV Rheinland Gruppe and DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung), the German standards institute (the equivalent of our UNI). DIN CERTCO’s reliability is recognized internationally.

The DINplus certification for wood pellets is based on the DIN EN ISO 17225-2 standard, to which stricter requirements have been applied.

The DIN EN ISO 17225-2 standard defines the requirements for wood pellets for fuel use, specifying virgin wood only as the raw material and establishing the chemical and physical requirements of the finished product. It also specifies the verification procedures.

This certification requires pellet producers to use an accredited testing institute that, after an initial quality verification, will carry out subsequent analyses without notice.

ENplus®

The ENplus® certification is an independent wood pellet quality certification that guarantees strict control of the entire production chain, from the early stages of processing to the delivery of the finished product.

Established in 2010 in Europe by the European Pellet Council (EPC), it is based on the ISO 17225 standard with additional restrictions.

The standard divides pellets into three categories:

  • ENplus® A1: High-quality pellets with ash content ≤0.7%
  • ENplus® A2: Lower-quality pellets with ash content ≤1.2%
  • ENplus® B: Lower-category pellets suitable only for industrial use

The ENplus® certification requires compliance with a series of standards, present in the guidelines, which regulate the length, diameter, and quantity of fine dust in a bag, the calorific value generated, the percentage of ash residue after combustion, the optimal humidity level, the presence of additives and chemicals, the wood species, its origin, and the reliability of the information on the individual product packages placed on the market.

All certified companies are part of a searchable database on the official website https://enplus-pellets.eu/

Qualità Prima Scelta Plus

Prima SceltaPlus is an additional internal pellet quality surveillance system implemented by Woodtech Italia. The company periodically conducts tests and verifies requirements, updating the results logs based on a quality protocol derived from the experience gained in the first Swiss production plant.

FSC

The FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) label identifies products containing wood from forests managed in a correct and responsible manner according to strict environmental, social and economic standards. The forest of origin has been independently controlled and evaluated in accordance with these standards (principles and criteria for good forest management), established and approved by the Forest Stewardship Council® a.c. through the participation and consent of stakeholders.

FSC® is an international non-governmental and independent organization whose purpose is to promote responsible management of forests and plantations.

FSC® guarantees that the collection of wood from forests maintains the biodiversity of tree species and their continuous renewal.

FSC® certification is voluntary. Woodtech Italia, as a company involved in the production of renewable energy, has decided to obtain it for its products through its Chain of Custody.

FSC® Chain of Custody certification guarantees the traceability of materials from FSC® certified forests. Possession of a valid FSC® COC (Chain of Custody) certificate is a necessary condition for being able to sell a product as certified. Thanks to this certification, Woodtech Italia can guarantee the origin of the wood for its products and therefore demonstrate in a correct, transparent and controlled manner its active contribution to responsible forest management.

FSC® certification refers to forest products, therefore to wood (roundwood, sawn timber, veneers, firewood, chips, etc.) and wood-based products (panels, furniture, frames, pellets, etc.), to their origin and not their nature (species).

The certified product guarantees that it has been processed using raw material sources managed in a responsible manner.

PEFC

The PEFC (Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) is a forest certification system that promotes sustainable forest management. PEFC is an international, non-profit organization that brings together various stakeholders to implement sustainable forest management practices at national and regional levels. Participants in PEFC include forest owners, consumers, industry representatives, environmental organizations, and government agencies.

PEFC certification ensures that forests are managed in a sustainable manner, that wood products from certified forests can be traced, that forest ecosystems are protected, that the origin of wood raw materials is verified, that trees are harvested according to the natural growth cycle of the forest, that felled areas are reforested or naturally regenerated, that workers’ rights and health are protected, and that the rights of indigenous peoples and forest owners are respected.

Woodtech Italia’s PEFC Chain of Custody certification guarantees that the certified wood and tree-based material in its products comes from sustainably managed forests, meeting the strict environmental, social, and economic requirements of this voluntary standard.

ISPM-15 of the FAO

The transport of wooden packaging is subject to the ISPM 15 International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15. This is a regulation that establishes phytosanitary measures to reduce the spread of harmful organisms from one continent to another. ISPM 15 applies to raw wood packaging with a thickness greater than 6 mm intended for export. The standard requires that the wood of wooden packaging be treated at high temperature (56°C for 30 minutes) or with methyl bromide. Compliant packaging bears a distinctive spike-shaped logo.
